What Makes A Winner
What makes a winner
The Olympics serve as a reminder of the qualities that make a winner. It is the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and discipline all in one moment. All are driven by the same goal - win! To be the undisputed leader in something. To feel the weight around your neck of a gold-medal. It is a long and difficult journey but it is rewarding when you win.
Vince Lombardi, former Green Bay Packers head coach, said that winning isn't everything. It is the only thing! You can be sure he was knowledgeable about winning. Michael Jordan once said, "I play to win. And I won't allow anything to get in the way. I think anyone who is the best basketball player of all times knows a bit about winning. Trump said that winning is not a matter of opinion. It is a cloak containing self-confidence, optimism, and persistence that wraps around people. All of us want that cloak. Everyone strives to be the best they can. We all have the drive to excel in whatever field we are playing. We want to win
The magnetism of winners is evident. Their qualities grab our attention and draw us to them. It is easy to identify a winner. They stand out from the crowd. Always! Why? What is it that makes them different? It is easy to answer: They think and behave differently to others. Their attitudes, behaviors and mindset are different from their rivals. Winners aren't content with being ordinary. They want to be extraordinary. And you can!
Donald Trump's quote that "The thing that separates losers from winners is how a individual reacts to every new twist of destiny" struck me the first time. It was obvious to me that the difference between being a winner, and a loser, had never been greater. I was able to clearly see the difference between those who had achieved their goals and those who didn't. Understanding that life can throw unexpected curveballs at you is essential. However, it's how you respond to these situations that will ultimately decide your chances of winning or losing. Trump refers to them as "twists" in life. They can be small or large. They are the unexpected moments in our lives. These events are not something you can avoid, but they can be managed. We can only choose how we respond to them. It is possible to win. It is up to you to decide to win. It's not enough to just want to be a winning person. You must also make the conscious decision that you will win. We have no control over winning.
No matter what sport you are trying to win, or whether you're looking to win business, winning requires that you think and act differently. Different winners approach the game differently.
Winners put emphasis on the present and future. They know that this moment is the only one we have. They cannot control the past. The past is history. It is not possible to change it. Winners won't waste their time on things that can't change. They take what they have learned from their past, the highs and lows, and use those insights to improve the things that they do now and set themselves up for success. They focus on the things they want to create and the steps they'll take to get there. They look forward, not backward.
Winners act. Winners are always on the move. They are always working towards something. They realize that dreams and plans without execution are meaningless. Losers talk a lot but don't seem to move. Winners are able to set a destination and then move towards it. While this doesn't mean winners don't reflect on their actions, it does mean that they know that not doing anything will help them succeed. Winners make the decision to move.
Disciplined winners will be successful. A winner knows that discipline is the ability to do something even when you don't want to. They realize that to achieve their goals, they need to be laser focused. They have to give up some things in order to succeed. To achieve their ultimate goals, winners realize that they will have sacrifice other things in order for them to be successful. They are willing and able to work harder than the rest, and they will put in more effort. Winning takes effort, time and can be frustrating. But winners persevere.
Winners move beyond their comfort zone. Our comfort zone can lead to mediocrity. You cannot achieve anything great within your comfort zone. Pushing ourselves beyond what we are familiar with is the best way to learn. Winners often step outside their comfort zones. They learn and grow. They push themselves to improve their skills and perform better. They accept the fear of the unknowable. Losers keep to what they know. Winners are more comfortable in their pursuit of greater success.
Winners are responsible. Winners believe that their lives are their own. Nobody else. They alone. Winners don’t take responsibility for others’ failures and mistakes. They don’t feel the world owes any of their failures or mistakes. Blaming others implies they aren’t in control of their own destiny. Winners don’t believe that. They believe they are in control of their fate and work hard for their opportunities. Winners understand that they are responsible to what happens to them.
Winners see the positive in themselves and others. People at the top are always humbler than those who aren't. The winners are positive. They see possibilities. They are driven dreamers. They are a source of inspiration for others by their dedication to success. They want to inspire the best in others. They know that winning is a team sport. They will discover new greatness when they help others. Losers tend to be focused on their own "what's the point?" and they don't have the compassion or willingness to help others. Winners are not only encouraging of themselves but also encourage others.
Winners never quit. A winner knows that defeat is inevitable. They understand that they will encounter setbacks and obstacles. But they won't let it stop them. Winners are life’s endless attempt-ers! They don't give up. They persevere in finding a way to get around obstacles that come their way. Losers tend to give up when things get difficult. They will not give up no matter what the odds are. They are persistent.
It is possible to win. You have the power and the freedom to make the choices that will lead to your success. While we cannot control what happens in our lives, we can influence how we respond. You have the power to choose to respond as a winner. You can choose to respond like a winner. It's going to take perseverance, self-discipline and hard work. While the pursuit of winning can be exhausting and make you doubt your own abilities, winning is something you can achieve. If you truly want it. If you really want it. Winners are people who believe they can win. Do you have the potential to win? "I Can!"
One of my favorite quotes, which has been repeated many times in this year's Summer Olympics, is "Winners Focus on Winning." Losers focus more on winning. This sums up the situation nicely. The Way to Be a Real Winner
